To the universe who created them, the trees that grow them, the families who sell them, the people who juice them. Today we honor oranges. Mushmina in Marrakech, drinking fresh juices. The first thing we do upon arrival. To make your own fresh cup of OJ, cut 3 oranges in half and squeeze into a glass with a juicer, or your hand. Perfection! 976IMG_3369 (2) 107IMG_0309 106IMG_0307 145IMG_0262 (2) 963IMG_3356 (2) Photos by the lovely, Heidi Roland.

Nature’s Perfection

June 21, 2015

It’s almost midnight in Morocco but I wanted to highlight a Super Soul Sunday kind of ftur.

Two special things at our table today.

1. A candle but not any old candle. This candle has become our centerpiece.

2. Nature’s perfection herself. A perfect bouquet of 5 white roses on one stem picked from our garden.

It was a good day. Hope yours was too!

If the only prayer you ever say is thank you, that would suffice. -Meister Eckhart

Fringe is in!

June 20, 2015

I have been getting phonecalls from many of the artisans who work with us this week. Why? To say Ramadan Kareem (Ramadan is generous!) and also to ask for work. It can be a long afternoon during Ramadan but if your hands are busy the time goes faster. I’m experiencing this myself, hence the resurrection of my blog posts! It’s Ramadan Day 3.

Today I don’t have any recipes for you but check out some of the work of the skillful leatherworkers of Morocco.

Fringe is in this season!

Today I give you Morocco’s favorite Ramadan sweeties.

1.Shebekia! Halwa is a Moroccan sesame cookie which is shaped into a flower, fried and then coated with honey. This is not an easy one to make, but if you are up for the challenge check out the recipe here.

2. My favorite, mint lemonade! Cut up one lemon with the skin on it (into chunks). Put in a blender with a liter of water and a few mint leaves. Blend. Stain the mixture and add sugar and some mint to the pitcher for a garnish. Easy peesy and brilliant flavor!

Today marks the first day of Ramadan. The holy month of fasting for Muslims around the world. I am not Muslim myself but I try to observe this holiday the best I can, to honor the culture of those around me in Morocco. It is not a easy month and I will admit I am daydreaming of being on a beach and eating cheeseburgers with family. But today I’m choosing to embrace this time of fasting, meditation, mindfullness, and a month to give your stomach a rest and thank the universe for what you have.

I am already looking forward to ftur, breaking the fast at sundown.

Two of my favorite foods.

1. Simply, Cherries!

2. Watermelon, mint, cucumber salad. Serve with balsamic. mmmmm

Bashaha! Enjoy

Mushmina has been in business 6 years and we know how difficult it is for small businesses to secure financing from traditional banks and lenders. Today we would like to share with you a special program called Kiva Zip. Kiva Zip is the sister program of the very popular Kiva.org, where individuals can make small loans to help people around the world. Kiva Zip is new this year and offers the same 0% financing for small business owners in expansion mode.

At Mushmina, we are not only blown away by the interest in our business from the people on the Kiva Zip network, but also by their generosity. We ourselves have become lenders and have enjoyed supporting some other great small businesses. Please check out this amazing program and help keep the abundance circulating.

http://zip.kiva.org/loans/13503/i/rpd6 This week thanks to the generosity of the Zisman Foundation, all loans to our business will be matched up to $500!

Abundance and Gratitude abound!

The journey continues….Much love, Heather and Katie

Are we that

Are we that short? xo

“Prosperity is already ours, but we have to accept it by aligning our lives to reflect our willingness to receive.” -Dr. Terry Drew Karanen, Science of Mind Magazine

We wanted to say thank you to everyone who made it to the Grand Opening in our new digs. We are feeling blessed with your continued support and community.

Today we invite you to bless all you have.

The Universe is abundant! Happy Sunday.
